Ajmer, also known as the Spiritual Heart of Rajasthan, is one of the most famous pilgrimages in India. Surrounded by the Aravalli range, the city is awash with history. A number of devotees from all over the country as well as from different parts of the world come to the city to pay homage at the Dargah Sharif. The prominent Hindu pilgrimage town Pushkar has its unique charm and is only 11km from Ajmer, separated from it by rugged Nag Pahar (Snake Mountain). It curls around a holy lake, said to have appeared when Brahma dropped a lotus flower. The authentic mysticism of the town attracts a muddle of religious and recreational tourists.
